I feel very sorry to the EDM community that I ridiculed their music and for my blatant hate at the time. I guess I am just a late bloomer.
For some out there, it might be hard to acknowledge its success, but EDM – or techno if you will – clearly is the new dominating music genre in the world. It trumps the popularity of hiphop and rock which are on the demise. Kids in every US city go crazy at all the different festivals. And radio is next.
EMINEM once was one of techno’s true enemies. In one of his famous videos he states: “Nobody listens to techno.” He might have felt that at the time (and maybe it was true for the US). But times have changed.. And now EVERYBODY LISTENS TO TECHNO.
Even Eminem.
Yes, one of our editors who is a homie on the tour bus of Eminem caught him in the act of checking out Tiesto’s Club Life radio show. Not only that.. he noticed a little stack of memos in the corner next to Em’s laptop. On there he was able to see Eminem’s handwriting noting tracks such as Martin Garrix – Animals, Like Mike and Dimitri Vegas (our editor forgot the specific tune), JOOP ft Fuzzi Kittenz – Sex Grendade and more.. Next there was a little notebook with handwritten raps.. where it looked like they had been written to these tracks.. He even doodled the face of Armin next to it..
Our editor asked Em about it to see if he was high. The answer was yes, but that was not the reason for his new found love. He said: “Five years ago I went to Burning Man. Amazing experience.. ever since I actually started to dig techno. After attending festivals like EDC, Ultra and Tomorrowworld incognito, I became really hooked. And now I’m trying to get some hooks on some of these tracks I really love. You know, I feel very sorry to the EDM community that I ridiculed their music and for my blatant hate at the time. I guess I am just a late bloomer.”
